Kim Govekar
Certified Birth Doula

I currently reside in Friendswood, TX with my husband and two children.  I am truly blessed to have the birth experiences of my own two children, the first of which was delivered by cesarean birth and the other vaginally, with the support of my husband and doula.

I was introduced to the doula business through my cousin, who was my doula, during the birth of my son.  I discovered that there was an intense passion in my heart to help women and their partners enjoy their birth experience, as I did mine. Shortly after the birth of my son, I attended doula training and received my certification through DONA (Doulas of North America) in 2001.  I chose to become a doula as a result of my newfound passion for pregnancy, birth and babies.

In 2008 I attended my 100th birth as a doula. My professional experience includes: vaginal, cesarean, un-medicated, medicated, labor induction, vacuum/forcep deliveries, waterbirth, multiples and VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean).

As part of my continuing education I served as one of two leaders of PDX Doulas (2001-2006), a hospital-based labor support program at OHSU Hospital.  As a leader of PDX Doulas, I helped to provide educational training to new doulas, hospital staff, and expectant parents.  In 2007, I received training in Pregnancy Massage for Labor and Delivery.  In 2005, I trained as a Childbirth Educator through Lamaze International.  In 2003, I attended the American Baby Breastfeeding Conference for Childbirth Educators.  In 2002, I received training in Lactation Education sponsored by Waterbirth International.

I am currently providing service in Friendswood, Houston and the surrounding areas.  For more information about my doula care, or to schedule a free initial consultation, please feel free to contact me at:

Client Testimonials:

"After a very rough first C-section delivery, I was determined to have a VBAC. I was sure I would need a Doula, from all I had read. (Besides, my husband might not return from deployment in time for the labor.) I looked at a number of them and found very few, even Christian ones, which I thought I would like. I liked Kim from the very start. During the labor, Kim was the reason I was able to actually have a VBAC. Through the 53 hours of labor, Kim was supportive, applied endless hours of counter pressure and kept me going. I was able to have the birth that I wanted, despite the obstacles because of Kim. I highly recommend Kim."     ~Annie B.

"Kim was my doula for 4 out of 5 my births. She is amazing and I highly recommend her to anyone interested in using a doula in the birth of their children. She was supportive and desired helping to make my birth experiences what I wanted them to be. The first birth she coached me through I wanted an epidural, and she didn't judge me and continued to be supportive of my wishes. The second birth she helped me with I ended up needing an emergency c-section due to a prolapsed chord. Kim helped to hold my baby up to keep pressure off of the chord until it was time for me to be rushed into the OR. The next birth she helped me with I wanted to attempt a VBAC, and with the help of Kim everything went very smoothly. My last birth was also a VBAC, but this time I chose to do it un-medicated. Kim was my rock during that birth. She fought for me when I had a crummy nurse who wouldn't let me leave the monitors or take a bath. She comforted me and championed me when I hit transition and wanted to give up. She used many techniques that helped me to relax and be as comfortable as possible. When the nurse strictly enforced hospital policy Kim helped me to make the best of the situation and be as comfortable as I could be. If I were to have anymore children I would definitely hire Kim. In my opinion she's the best."         ~Tiffany K.
